For the first time since an exhibition game Oct. 14 in China against the Miami Heat, Lamar Odom played for the Clippers.

Odom, who sat out the last five exhibition games because of a bone bruise in his left knee, checked into the game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night at the start of the second quarter.

Odom’s first play was a block of a Zach Randolph shot. But Odom’s second play immediately after the block was a turnover on the fastbreak.

“He practiced the last couple of days,†Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said. “He’ll be limited, but it’ll be nice to get him out there a little.â€

Barnes sits

Matt Barnes didn’t play after he was suspended Tuesday by the NBA for one game without pay after he pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor for resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer.

He was arrested in Manhattan Beach in July on suspicion of threatening a public official, a felony. Barnes was arrested after an officer who was aware he had an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor traffic violation approached him on foot.

But the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office chose to file a misdemeanor and agreed to a deal on a lesser charge.

“That’s tough,†Del Negro said about not having Barnes. “Matt has been our most consistent guy throughout the whole preseason.â€

Del Negro said Caron Butler probably would get extended minutes and that reserve guard Jamal Crawford would play some at small forward.

“But no question, Matt is a big loss,†Del Negro said. “It’s bad timing as well with Grant [Hill] being out.â€

Barnes wasn’t allowed to be inside Staples Center. But Barnes did take to Twitter on Tuesday. “My suspension handed down by the NBA 2day is a #JOKE, but best of luck 2 my team 2maro vs a tough Memphis team,†he tweeted.

Del Negro said the team didn’t consider suspending or fining Barnes any more. The coach was asked if the organization was disappointed in Barnes’ tweet.

“That’s Matt,†Del Negro said. “I don’t have a problem with it. That’s how he feels about it. He’s a grown man and he’s going to voice his opinion on it. I think it’s a difficult situation for everybody. The rules are the rules. I’ll leave it at that.â€

Hill, who was signed to be the backup behind Butler, still is out because of a bone bruise in his right knee and there is no timetable for his return.

Hill was scheduled to be examined by the Clippers’ doctor Wednesday night.

“There’s no agenda right now other than rest, therapy and no timetable,†Del Negro said.
