Kings, please add Bob Miller to Stanley Cup Final radio team

Bob Miller is the voice of the Kings.

So I’m watching the Kings thrilling victory over New Jersey in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC on Wednesday. And as exciting as the game was, as dramatic as Anze Kopitar’s game-winning goal was, there was something missing.

Bob Miller.

You see, the NBC announcing team is led by Mike Emrick. A good play-by-play guy, but he was the lead play-by-play guy for the Devils from 1982-86 and 1993-2011. And it shows in his current gig, so the national telecast doesn’t have the unbiased announcing you look for.

The Kings’ radio team of Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans is very good. I am sure that Miller wouldn’t want to pull rank and replace either one in the booth for the Stanley Cup Final.

So, don’t do that -- just add Miller to the booth. Make it a three-man team. Have Nickson and Miller trade off play-by-play each period. I’m sure some sort of arrangement can be put together that would make everyone happy. And if by chance the Kings have won three games and have a lead in the Cup-clinching game, let Miller call the final two minutes of game action.

It would be a real shame if the Kings win the Stanley Cup and there is nowhere fans can turn to hear Bob Miller call the final minutes of the Cup-clinching victory. That is something that should be saved for posterity, so Kings fans can share it with their kids and their grandkids.

So please add Miller to the radio team -- for the fans, those fans who have supported the team through good times and bad. Those who have grown up with Bob Miller as the voice of their team. Those who would fall asleep on school nights listening to Bob Miller call the action. Those who consider Bob Miller the soundtrack of their childhood. For the fans.
