Wayne Selden Jr. and Sviatoslav Mykhaliuk both scored 18 points to lead seven Kansas players in double figures and the fifth-ranked Jayhawks cruised past Chaminade, 123-72, in the opening round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Monday night.

Devonte Graham had 15 points, Frank Mason III had 14, Landen Lucas had 13 and Hunter Mickelson and Perry Ellis both had 11 for the Jayhawks, who shot 64.4% from the field (47 for 73).

Kansas (2-1) will play the winner of the UNLV-UCLA game in the semifinals Tuesday. The Jayhawks bounced back from a 79-73 loss to then-No. 13 Michigan State last week in the Champions Classic.

Chaminade (0-3), the Division II host school from Honolulu, dropped to 7-85 in the 32 years of the tournament. The only way to an upset was to beat Kansas from the outside and the Silverswords took almost as many three-point field goals (33) as two-point shots (36).

at No. 14 California 89, Sam Houston State 63: Freshman forward Jaylen Brown had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Tyrone Wallace helped key a big first-half run that led the Golden Bears to their fourth straight win to open the season.

Jordan Mathews added 18 points and Wallace had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for California, which now prepares to get tested for the first time this season later this week.

After opening with four relatively easy opponents, the Bears will play San Diego State on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Invitational and then either West Virginia or Richmond on Friday. That should provide a truer test of where they stand.

Wake Forest 82, No. 13 Indiana 78: Bryant Crawford’s driving layup with 3.2 seconds to play gave Wake Forest the lead and the Demon Deacons beat the Hoosiers in the opening round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

Crawford had the ball at the head of the key for about eight seconds before he put his down and drove to the basket to give Wake Forest (3-1) the lead for good. After Indiana turned the ball over on a long pass, John Collins made two free throws with .7 seconds left for the final margin.

Wake Forest will face No. 19 Vanderbilt, a 92-55 winner over St. John’s, in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Marquette 81, No. 22 Louisiana State 80: Jajuan Johnson hit the winning free throws with 10.8 seconds remaining and the Golden Warriors survived a frenetic finish to defeat the Tigers in the semifinals of the Legends Classic.

Marquette will Arizona State in Tuesday’s championship game.

LSU (2-1) freshman Ben Simmons collected 21 points and 20 rebounds in front of 51 NBA scouts and gave the Tigers their only lead at 80-79 with a reverse layup with 21.5 seconds remaining.

But Johnson knocked down the two free throws and Josh Gray missed a three-pointer as time expired. Luke Fischer led four players in double figures with 19 points for Marquette (2-2). Henry Ellenson was among three Golden Warriors with 16 points along with Johnson and Duane Wilson.
