Girls’ basketball: Chaminade opens big halftime lead
Kaylie Fandino’s jumper at the buzzer punctuated a dominant first half fo Chaminade, which leads five-time champion Archbishop Mitty, 46-21, in the Division II state final at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.
The Eagles have shown no signs of nerves in their first finals appearance. They are shooting 19-of-27 from the field, led by Devin Stanback (13 points) and Valerie Higgins (11 points, three steals). Fandino has nine points and Chaminade is 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Chaminade scored the first eight points of the game and led 26-9 after the first quarter. Kelli Hayes has eight points for Archbishop Mitty, which has made 9 of 27 field goal attempts.
