Softball: Mission Viejo wins Division 2 championship, 1-0, in nine innings

It was quite a pitching duel on Friday night in Irvine, with Mission Viejo’s Taylor McQuillin getting matched pitch for pitch by Chino’s Miranda Viramontes.
The Southern Section Division 2 softball final went into the ninth inning. That’s when Mission Viejo loaded the bases and won it on Kayleen Shafer’s hit for a 1-0 victory.
Each pitcher gave up only one hit. McQuillin struck out 17. Viramontes struck out 15.
Mission Viejo finishes 26-1.
In the Division 3 final, St. Paul defeated La Serna, 2-1.
In Division 6, St. Bonaventure defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 4-3, in eight innings.
