Football: St. Francis QB Jeremiah Martin has broken collarbone

Jeremiah Martin, the standout senior quarterback from unbeaten La Canada St. Francis (11-0), suffered a broken collarbone during the third quarter of last week’s opening Southeast Division playoff victory over Mayfair. Coach Jim Bonds said the injury was confirmed on Monday.

Martin had been having an MVP-like season. He has yet to be intercepted in 11 games and has 2,424 yards passing and 29 touchdowns. He was 11 of 11 for 184 yards and three touchdowns against Mayfair. He threw a touchdown before he realized he had been hurt.

It’s uncertain how long Martin will be sidelined. If he can’t play, sophomore backup Miles Bryant will become the starter. Bryant, who played as a freshman on varsity last season at Monrovia, is considered to be a talented player, though he has seen little action this season.

St. Francis plays La Serna on Friday in a quarterfinal game.
