Football: Sophomore QB Matt Corral is player on the rise

One game doesn’t tell how a season might transpire, but make no mistake about it: Sophomore quarterback Matt Corral of Oaks Christian is a player to watch.
In the fourth quarter against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, he threw three touchdown passes in a 41-34 victory. He completed 17 of 28 passes for 262 yards. He also ran for 71 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Jim Benkert, who has coached lots of good quarterbacks through the years, said of Corral, “He’s going to be a great one.â€
Oaks Christian will play San Diego Cathedral Catholic on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oceanside High as part of the Honor Bowl.
