Football: Simi Valley hoping for first playoff berth since Bill Clinton was president

Every member of Simi Valley football team wasn’t even born the last time the Pioneers made it to the playoffs.
That would be in 1992, when Bill Clinton was president.
Thanks to the formation of new leagues and leaving the Marmonte League, Simi Valley (3-4) will begin its playoff drive next week in the new Canyon League that also includes Calabasas, Agoura and Oak Park.
“Our guys feel they have a real shot to get into the playoffs,” Coach Ryan Taggart said.
Previously, Simi Valley would face the tough task of having to finish ahead of Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure, among others.
The Pioneers, led by quarterback Davis Pinkston, should battle it out with Agoura (2-4) for the league title.
Agoura rallied for a 29-28 win over its former Marmonte League foe, Moorpark, last week, when junior running back Christian Williams rushed for 190 yards in 33 carries.
Agoura faces Simi Valley on Oct. 30.
