Junior quarterback Matthew McDonald, who began last season as the starting quarterback at Santa Ana Mater Dei before losing his position after an injury, has left Mater Dei and appears headed to Mission Viejo.
After McDonald injured his forearm in the second game, freshman J.T. Daniels took over as the starter for the Monarchs.
Mission Viejo will need a new quarterback after the graduation of Brock Johnson.
Mission Viejo’s new semester begins next week. Mission Viejo has won consecutive West Valley Division championships and figures to be moved to the new Division 1 next season.
Daniels has picked up offers from Washington, Notre Dame, UCLA, Arizona State and California.
