Football: No change in result of Marshall-Manual Arts playoff game
There is no appeal for Marshall after the officials halted the City Section Division III playoff game against Manual Arts on Friday with the ball at the one-yard line because of darkness.
Manual Arts won the game, 42-36.
Both teams were aware the game would end at 5:01 p.m., according to Marshall Athletic Director Wendy Triplett. Marshall’s bus arrived late, so a 2 p.m. start was pushed back to 2:30 p.m.
Marshall was in the process of running a final play at the one-yard line when the officials called the game. Marshall Coach Clay Johnston said Saturday the officials called the game at 5 p.m., but Triplett said Monday that was incorrect. It was called at 5:01 p.m., 10 minutes after sunset at 4:51 p.m.
City Section teams are allowed to play day games in the first round of the playoffs.
Manual Arts, however, won’t be allowed to host its quarterfinal game against Marquez on its home field unless it brings in lights.
Los Angeles is bringing in lights for its Division II quarterfinal game against Huntington Park.
