Football: Mission Viejo pulls out overtime victory [Video]
Alex Suchesk ran 11 yards around left end for a touchdown in overtime to give Mission Viejo a 28-25 victory over Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) on Saturday night at Mission Viejo.
The Diablos (3-0) held a 13-0 halftime lead, but Don Bosco (1-1) rallied to take a 14-13 lead on a five-yard touchdown run by Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks and a 15-yard fumble return by Mike Gutjahr.
Suchesk put Mission Viejo back on top at 19-14 with a two-yard touchdown run with 6:01 left. Hanks moved Don Bosco back on top with a nine-yard touchdown run with 1:01 remaining. A two-point conversion made it 22-19 Don Bosco.
Quarterback Ian Fieber made some clutch passes to give Zach Olson the opportunity to make his third field goal of the game, this one from 32 yards with seven seconds left, to send the game into overtime.
After Don Bosco converted on a 22-yard field goal on the opening possession of overtime, Mission Viejo faced a fourth down from the 16. The Diablos lined up to try a field goal, but the holder, Hunter Bland, ended up completing a four-yard pass to Peyton Marshall for a first down. That set up Suchesk’s game-ending touchdown.
Fieber completed 14 of 29 passes for 264 yards. Suchesk rushed for 70 yards. Hanks gained 137 yards in 30 carries for Don Bosco. Michael Mathewes was a standout on defense for Mission Viejo.
