Let the excitement build for Friday’s Trinity League opener between Santa Ana Mater Dei (5-0) and host St. John Bosco (4-1).
Someone should bring out the shot put ball, because the state’s top two shot putters will be going head to head in the trenches.
On one side is offensive guard Matt Katnik of St. John Bosco. He finished second in the state shot put and has a mark of 65 feet, 4 inches. On the other side is defensive tackle Malik McMorris of Mater Dei. He finished fourth and has a mark of 60-9 1/2.
“I like competing against Matt. It will be another grind on the football field,” McMorris said.
So, if anyone has an extra shot, bring it out at halftime.
“I need a little practice,” McMorris said.
