Football: Lawndale forfeits four games because of ineligible player
Lawndale, which was 8-1 overall and clinched at least a share of its first league title in 50 years, will forfeit four victories because of an ineligible player, Principal Paula Rodas announced Monday night.
Lawndale will forfeit nonleague games against Crespi and Torrance and Ocean League games against Culver City and Santa Monica. Lawndale drops to 2-2 in league play with one game left against Hawthorne.
The player was a transfer student.
“New facts regarding the residency of the student were recently brought into evidence through an issue regarding attendance, causing the school to investigate the validity of the residence claim made by the student and parents,†Rodas said in an email.
The school determined that the residency claims made by the family at initial enrollment were not valid. Lawndale will forfeit the four games the student played in.
