Football: Here comes quarterback Khalil Tate of Gardena Serra
- Share via
Scott Altenberg, the football coach at Gardena Serra, started the season not knowing who is quarterback might be.
But going into week 10, junior Khalil Tate has become a standout while leading the surging Cavaliers to a 7-2 record and 4-1 mark in the Mission League.
“It’s about him being able to manage the game,” Altenberg said. “He just turned 16, so he’s a real young junior. It’s about him understanding. He’s always had talent. It was him getting to the point he can do it.”
There’s no doubt anymore about Tate, who passed for four touchdowns and ran for another in a win over Chaminade last week. And the best is yet to come.
“His upside is huge,” Altenberg said. “He can run, he can throw.”
