Football: Hart’s Trent Irwin is state’s newest record setter
The four-year high school football career of receiver Trent Irwin of Newhall Hart has ended, but he went out on Friday as a California record setter.
After catching 15 passes for 165 yards in a 52-21 loss to Upland, Irwin’s career receiving totals went to 285 receptions for 5,272 yards, according to The Signal. Both will be state records, topping former Canyon Country Canyon’s Dave Wolitarsky, who had 281 receptions for 5,148 yards in his career.
“He’s worked so hard for his accomplishment,†Coach Mike Herrington said. “He’s such a great kid. Every kid on the team respects and likes him.â€
Irwin is admired for his great hands, ability to run pass patterns and desire to get to the ball.
“There were a lot of times he went through two, three people to get the football,†Herrington said.
As for a college choice, Irwin is deciding between Stanford and Arizona State.
