Football: Get ready for another battle between Narbonne and San Pedro
- Share via
As good as Narbonne has been the last five years in rising to the top as one of the City Section’s premier football programs, the Gauchos always know that San Pedro will be one of their toughest games. And now the two Marine League rivals meet in a league opener on Friday at Narbonne.
In the last five years, the games have been quite good. Last season, Narbonne won, 12-11. In 2012, the year Narbonne had its best team ever, it won, 28-7. Then San Pedro won, 49-42, and 35-31. In 2009, Narbonne won, 23-22.
Narbonne (2-3) probably deserves to be the favorite this week. It has played a much tougher schedule than the unbeaten Pirates (5-0). Quarterback Roman Ale and running back Sean Riley will present lots of problems.
But Coach Mike Walsh seems to know how to give Coach Manuel Douglas a sleepless night. And the Pirates have their own answer to the Ale-Riley combo in quarterback Jacob Miller and running back Chris Alvidrez.
No matter what, the coaches and players respect each other, and it should be an exciting Marine League opener.
