Fairfax (7-6) is excited and looking forward to its challenge of taking on top-seeded Los Angeles (12-0-1) in Saturday’s 3 p.m. City Section Division II final at Cerritos College.
The Lions have the most successful running back in the City Section in Ramses Hernandez, who has rushed for 2,602 yards 29 touchdowns.
“For us, you always want to coach in December, and it’s wonderful,” Coach Shane Cox said. “I’m grateful for the kids getting us here. Los Angeles is a great team, but we’re going to put together a great plan and see what happens.”
Cox said it’s the Romans’ defense that must be figured out, particularly blocking standout lineman Martin Andrus.
Fairfax’s season changed after a 48-7 loss to Taft on Sept. 25.
Cox told Taft’s coach, “Thanks a lot for kicking our butt.”
“From that week on, we’ve gotten better and better,” Cox said.
The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to a regional bowl game next weekend.
