Football: Chaminade is working on ‘secret plays,’ but when will they be used?
West Hills Chaminade is 3-1 and plays a tough game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (4-1) on Friday at home. The Eagles have been working on some “secret plays,†Coach Ed Croson said. But don’t expect to see any of them.
Those plays are mostly being prepared for unbeaten Gardena Serra, which Chaminade plays on Oct. 18 in a Mission League game and could end up facing twice this season.
“We have some stuff we’ve been working on specifically for them,†Croson said. “We’ll unleash as needed.â€
Of course, if Chaminade needs a play to win against Notre Dame, Croson said there will be options. “We’re going to do whatever it takes to win,†he said. “If we have to go into our bag of tricks, we’ll go into our bag of tricks.â€
Both schools are in the same dilemma. They have tough league games ahead and need to save their most valuable plays for later.
Notre Dame will have to finish first or second in the competitive Serra League to guarantee itself a Pac-5 Division playoff berth. Chaminade will have to take on Serra and improved league opponents St. Francis, Cathedral and Harvard-Westlake.
