There was drama on Monday at the City Section girls’ golf championship.
On the 17th hole at Balboa Golf Course, freshman Amanda Lee of Cleveland made a 15-foot birdie putt to pull into a tie for first place with Sylmar’s Julie Ward.
On the 18th hole, a 319-yard par-4, Ward put together her best drive of the day, straight down the middle more than 200 yards. She sent her next shot on the green and ended up with a par. Lee finished with a double bogey after three-putting on the green.
Ward, a senior who didn’t play for Sylmar last season, won the City individual title with a 72. Lee finished second with a 74 and freshman Carol Cheng of Granada Hills was third with a 75.
Granada Hills won its fourth consecutive girls’ title and 10th overall. North Hollywood finished second and was the only other team competing with the Highlanders.
