Boys’ soccer: Top-seeded Cathedral advances in Division 1

Rene Diaz scored two goals as top-seeded Cathedral defeated Peninsula, 2-0, in a Southern Section first-round Division 1 soccer opener on Thursday.
Goalie Richard Rangel got the shutout, the team’s 18th this season.
In another big game, Long Beach Jordan eliminated Servite on penalty kicks.
