Boys’ basketball: State tournament ramifications for Open Division
- Share via
Tonight’s quarterfinals in the Southern Section Open Division basketball playoffs are important for the state tournament.
The four winners are expected to be the Southern Section representatives in the Southern California Regional Open Division playoffs. The four losing teams would go to the Division I tournament.
Also, the consolation bracket begins, and the winning teams would also likely advance to the Division I bracket while the losing teams go to Division II.
The big question regarding the Corona Centennial at Mater Dei game tonight is the availability of 6-foot-10 Ike Anigbogu of Centennial. He didn’t play last week against Compton while working to recover from a knee injury.
The other Open Division quarterfinals have No. 1 Chino Hills at Inglewood; Sierra Canyon at Redondo and No. 2 Bishop Montgomery playing Damien at El Camino College.
The winners advance to Friday’s semifinals. The championship game is March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Honda Center.
