Boys’ basketball: Donald Gipson to undergo MRI

Fairfax junior guard Donald Gipson will undergo an MRI on Thursday after suffering a knee injury Tuesday night in the Lions’ 58-50 win over Etiwanda, Coach Harvey Kitani said.
Gipson spent several hours in a hospital emergency room.
“I’m hoping it’s a sprain and he won’t have surgery,” Kitani said.
Gipson is not likely to be available for Saturday’s Southern California Regional final of the Open Division at 8 p.m. at The Pyramid against the winner of tonight’s other semifinal between Bishop Montgomery and Mater Dei at Redondo.
Gipson had become one of Fairfax’s best players and recently picked up a scholarship offer from Fresno State.
“He was very disappointed,” Kitani said. “He’s worked so hard this year. He does so many things for us.”
