Baseball: UCLA gets commitment from Gahr’s Michael Perez

There’s a sigh of relief in the Perez household after standout sophomore shortstop Michael Perez, the San Gabriel Valley League MVP as a freshman, committed to UCLA on Friday.
If Perez had chosen another school, it might have been a little uncomfortable for his mother, Kelly Inouye-Perez, the softball coach at UCLA. His father, Gerardo, is the baseball coach at Gahr.
“The kid has grown up there,” Gerardo said.
Perez, 6 feet 1, 170 pounds, had 30 stolen bases last season.
He’s the third Gahr player to commit in baseball this summer.
Senior pitcher Oscar Carvajal committed to Fresno State, and junior left-hander Josh Haley committed to Arizona.
