Baseball: NCAA approves rule allowing drafted high school players to hire agents

A proposal to allow drafted high school baseball players to hire an agent to negotiate with a major-league club has been approved at the NCAA convention, Baseball America reported.

Before, agents acted only as advisors. Now players can pay the agent but still can’t receive additional benefits. If they do not sign, the relationship must end.

The rule takes effect immediately in the Pac-12, Big 12, ACC, SEC and Big Ten that have already adopted the rule.
