Dillon Miyashiro of Santa Margarita came through on the mound on Tuesday night in the Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. He allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked one to lead the Eagles past Trabuco Hills, 3-0. They will face Foothill in Saturday’s 8 p.m. final at Dodger Stadium.
A big moment came in the fourth inning when Trabuco Hills had the bases loaded. But Miyashiro ended the threat with a strikeout, and the Mustangs never recovered.
Santa Margarita put together five hits, including three in a row, in the second inning to score all of its runs. There was an RBI triple by Jordan Steele, an RBI double by Andrew Mendonca and an RBI single by J.J. Carr. Kevin Thomsen had two hits on the night.
“It was a total team effort,” Miyashiro said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, and it’s not a one-man show.”
Santa Margarita is especially excited because it will have its ace, UCLA-bound Griffin Canning, ready to go on Friday night.
