Baseball: Birmingham’s Ryan Mendoza commits to Long Beach State

Ryan Mendoza, an All-City junior catcher from defending City Section Division I champion Birmingham, said Wednesday he has committed to Long Beach State.

“I’m excited to be part of such a good program,� Mendoza said.

Mendoza was key player defensively in Birmingham’s title run last season.

“He’s the top City Section catcher defensively,� Coach Matt Mowry said.

Mendoza also decided to play quarterback for Birmingham’s football team this season.
