Baseball: Banning opens with big effort from Ivan Martinez

Ivan Martinez pitched and hit Banning to a 9-3 season-opening victory over Garfield on Monday.
Martinez struck out seven and walked none in five innings. He also went three for three with four RBIs.
Cleveland improved to 3-0 with a 5-2 win over Sylmar. Sam Villa threw a complete game. Sanotuli Taufahema had three hits and Chris Gonzalez and Gio Cheherlian added two apiece.
Andrew Lewis of Northridge Academy threw a five-inning perfect game in a 12-0 win over Hollywood.
