Jamey Wright hopes to return to Dodgers next season

Didn’t mention in my feature on Jamey Wright, even if it is just sort of understood, but the right-hander said he hopes to return to the Dodgers next season.

“I’ve always wanted to play here,” Wright said. “I thought I had an opportunity to come here in 2008 and it didn’t work out. Ever since first coming here with the Rockies, there’s something about being here, being in L.A., being in this city. It’s something I’ve always want to get the opportunity to do.”

Wright, 37, won a spot with the team during spring training, an experience he has now undergone with some club an amazing seven consecutive years. He started as a long man, but as he continued to pitch well has now largely become a seventh- and eighth-inning guy.

“We’ve just been having a lot of fun all year,” he said. “This has been a great group of guys to play with and one of the most fun seasons I’ve ever had. That comes with winning. We’ve been in the hunt the whole time. I knew come this time, we’d be in this position.”

Wright is currently 5-3 with a 3.48 ERA and has not allowed a run in his last 11 appearances.

“I mean, I love to do this and will do it for as long as I can,” he said. “I love to compete and I’m a huge baseball fan too.”

Wright said it is tough being away from his wife, Marnie, and three children, who are back in Dallas. But he wants to keep playing as long as he can, and his wife goes along with it.

“I’ll keep going until she tells me I can’t go anymore,” he said.
