Dodgers make official one-year deals with Jamey Wright, Chris Perez
On his 39th birthday, Jamey Wright landed a long-awaited major league contract.
The Dodgers officially announced Tuesday their one-year deals with Wright and Chris Perez, a former All-Star closer with the Cleveland Indians.
By signing Wright to a guaranteed contract, the Dodgers ended one of baseball’s most remarkable streaks.
In each of the last eight seasons, Wright went into spring training on a minor league contract and pitched his way on to the opening-day roster, including with the Dodgers in 2012. Wright’s other stops included the San Francisco Giants (2006), Texas Rangers (2007, 2008), Kansas City Royals (2009), the Cleveland Indians (2010), Seattle Mariners (2011) and Tampa Bay Rays (2013).
Financial terms of the Wright’s deal are unknown.
Perez will earn a base salary of $2.3 million.
The Dodgers also formally announced their two-year deal with left-hander J.P. Howell that was completed last week.
