Dodgers stun Mets in 12 innings, 8-3

NEW YORK -- This was a game the Dodgers probably should have lost.

Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi pitched 4 1/3 innings into a game that lasted 12. The bullpen was depleted, as closer Kenley Jansen and setup man Ronald Belisario were unavailable. Because the Dodgers were also short on position players, pitcher Clayton Kershaw was called on to pinch hit at one point.

But role players Matt Treanor, Luis Cruz and Adam Kennedy combined to drive in five runs with two outs in the 12th inning, lifting the Dodgers to an 8-3 victory over the New York Mets to sweep the three-game series. The Dodgers have won their last four games.

With two outs, men on the corners and the score tied 3-3, Mets reliever Ramon Ramirez intentionally walked Andre Ethier to bring up Treanor, who singled in two runs on a two-strike pitch. That was followed by another single, this one by Luis Cruz, that drove in another run. Kennedy doubled over the head of right fielder Lucas Duda, driving in two more runs and increasing the lead to the final margin.

The Dodgers used several relievers to get that far.

Scott Elbert threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Shawn Tolleson also pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up a run. Jamey Wright pitched a scoreless eighth inning. But former closer Javy Guerra failed to protect a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning, as he was charged with a run that sent the game into extra innings.

Josh Wall, making his major league debut, pitched a scoreless 11th inning. Josh Lindblom pitched the 12th.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Juan Rivera.

Duda singled in David Murphy in the bottom half of the inning to close the gap to 2-1.

Ethier provided the Dodgers with some breathing room when he singled in Mark Ellis in the sixth inning.

But Tolleson gave up a run-scoring single to Murphy in the bottom of the seventh inning, reducing the margin to 3-2.
