Yimi Garcia to start for Dodgers against Phillies
Right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia will start for the Dodgers on Monday night in their series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dodgers’ previously scheduled starter, Carlos Frias, landed on the disabled list Sunday because of lower-back problems.
Garcia has posted a 3.89 earned-run average in 39 relief appearances this season. He hasn’t pitched more than two innings in any game. He presumably will be one of several relievers who will pitch for the Dodgers on Monday. The team reinforced its bullpen by calling up left-hander Eric Surkamp from triple-A Oklahoma City.
In corresponding roster moves, left-hander Daniel Coulombe was optioned to triple A and left-hander Paco Rodriguez was moved to the 60-day disabled list.
Acquired from the Chicago White Sox on May 22, Surkamp has pitched in 18 games in triple A this season, including seven starts. He has a 3.77 ERA.
