Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig could play in minor leagues next week

Yasiel Puig, who is on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, could play in minor league games next week, Manager Don Mattingly said.

“I know they’re talking about his progression and getting out and playing some games soon,� Mattingly said.

Puig is eligible to be activated from the disabled list ay 11, when the Dodgers are scheduled to play the finale of a three-game series in Colorado. Mattingly said he expected Puig to be ready to be activated around that time.

“Right now, it seems like we’re on track,� Mattingly said.

Puig won’t travel with the Dodgers to Milwaukee for a four-game series that starts Monday.

“I would think during that period of time, maybe he’ll have a chance to play,� Mattingly said.

Mattingly was uncertain of where Puig might play.

An option would be to send Puig to the Dodgers’ Class-A affiliate in Rancho Cucamonga, which hosts Visalia in a four-game series that opens Monday.
