Dodgers’ Adrian Gonzalez named NL Player of the Week

In a shocking development to absolutely no one, Adrian Gonzalez was named Monday as the National League’s Player of the Week.
Those types of honors tend to happen when you’re making history to open a baseball season.
Gonzalez hit a major-league-record five home runs in the Dodgers’ first three games. Pull that off and you can have a week when you lead the majors with five homers, 14 hits, 32 total bases, a .609 batting average (14-for-23) and 1.391 slugging and .667 on-base percentages in six games.
Otherwise, he just couldn’t get it going.
Even going without a home run over the weekend in Phoenix, he so far still has more home runs than 13 major league teams.
Gonzalez, who turns 33 next month, led the Dodgers last season 27 home runs and 41 doubles, and the majors with 116 RBIs. He also won the Gold Glove for first basemen.
This is the eighth time he has won the weekly award, but the first with the Dodgers.
