Missing Broncos fan found 100 miles away, five days after game
A man who left his seat at halftime during the Denver Broncos’ home game last Thursday and never came back was found safe Tuesday night more than 100 miles away.
Paul Kitterman told police he had “his fill of football†so he walked and hitchhiked to Pueblo, Colo., where he was found by police outside a Kmart store five nights later.
Fox 31 Denver reports that sources said the 53-year-old Kitterman, a construction worker and avid hunter and outdoorsman, was coherent and had just wanted to get away and find someplace warm.
The Facebook page “Help Find Paul Kitterman†reported Tuesday night that he was with his family, who requested privacy at this time.
Denver Police Sgt. Steve Warneke said no criminal charges are expected in the case, but he did not have any further information.
“All we were trying to do was make sure he was unharmed, and he was,†Warneke said. “So at that point, we’re finished.â€
But there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding the disappearance of a man with no known health or personal problems who is said to have had no cellphone or credit cards with him when he left his seat to meet up with some friends at Sports Authority Field during halftime of the Broncos’ game against the San Diego Chargers.
Kitterman’s stepson, Jarod Tonneson, who had been attending the game with him, said Kitterman doesn’t use drugs and had four or five beers that night but didn’t seem disoriented.
Tonneson said that after Kitterman didn’t return to his seat, he eventually grew worried and, after looking all over the stadium, filed a missing-persons report with Denver police. He and other family members and friends also called area hospitals and detox centers and hung fliers all over the city.
“It’s been a long bunch of days for us. It’s been a long bunch of days for everyone following this. And it’s been a long bunch of days for Paul,†friend Tia Bakke told Fox 31. “At this point, all we can do is get him some rest, get him some food and move forward.â€
