Police ask for safe return of puppy stolen in Glendale
A 5-month-old French bulldog named Cain was stolen in Glendale on Thursday after an unknown thief took off with a work truck where the puppy was being kept at the time.
The theft happened sometime before 3 a.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Orange Street as Cain’s owner was finishing work cleaning the ventilation system on the roof of a building next to where the truck was parked.
The owner had left the vehicle running at the time of the theft in order to keep the puppy warm while he was working, according to the Glendale Police Department.
“He made a mistake and I believe he just didn’t think someone would steal the truck,” Sgt. Dan Suttles, a department spokesman, said.
Suttles said the owner was able to clearly see the truck from the roof of the building while he was working but didn’t see the theft take place.
The truck, a blue GMC Sierra C1500 with license number 6P58119, also had a pressure washer in its bed as well as several hoses and pressure wands.
Authorities do not think the thief knew Cain was in the truck when it was taken. They are asking for the dog to be dropped off at the Pasadena Humane Society at 361 S. Raymond Ave., no questions asked.
Cain is described as having gray or brindle-colored fur and was last seen wearing a collar adorned with skulls. However, authorities said the collar does not have any ID tags.
According to Suttles, Cain was scheduled to be implanted with a microchip next month.
“Everybody involved in this case is just heartbroken that this man’s pet was taken,” he said.
