High School Roundup: Newport, Edison to meet in OC Championships finale

Orange County Championships
Newport Harbor and Edison will meet in Division 1 final at Edison on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Sailors advanced by defeating Huntington Beach, 25-22, 21-25, 15-7, in the semifinals on Saturday, while the Chargers beat Corona del Mar, 11-25, 25-21, 15-12, in the semis.
The Sea Kings placed third in the tournament.
BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Triton Invitational
Newport Harbor High’s boys’ track and field team made a strong showing at San Clemente High in the Triton Invitational.
Cole Smith continued to make headlines, winning both throwing events. He produced a season-best toss of 59 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the shot put.
The senior doubled up on his victory with a heave of 169 feet, 9 inches in the discus.
Mark Field was instrumental in the Sailors’ sprint medley relay win (3:39.47). He ran an 800-meter anchor leg of 1:58.3 to assist the team of Lars Hedendahl, Dylan Campos, and Travis Campos.
Newport Harbor was the runner-up in the distance medley relay. Ben Wilson, Alexis Garcia, Hedendahl, and Field combined to run 10:48.
Wilson finished second in the 3,200 with a time of 9:48, and Garcia was fourth in the 1,600 with a season-best time of 4:25.
