Corona del Mar High seniors Matt Ctvrtlik, Sam Kobrine and Will Hunter received All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 laurels in boys’ volleyball for leading the Sea Kings to back-to-back CIF Southern Section Division 1 runner-up finishes, as well as a third straight CIF Southern California Regional final appearance.
The trio were vital to CdM’s success, which included a 14th consecutive Pacific Coast League championship and a 96-match winning streak in league. The Sea Kings (29-7, 10-0 in league) lost to Los Angeles Loyola in five sets in the section finale, and fell in three sets to Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in the SoCal Regional Division I final.
All three are bound for college: Ctvrtlik to Harvard; Kobrine to UCLA; and Hunter to USC.
Ctvrtlik, a two-time All-CIF setter, amassed 818 assists, 42 kills, 28 blocks, 68 digs and 19 aces. He was the Orange County Player of the Year and made the All-Pacific Coast League first team.
Kobrine, the Pacific Coast League MVP, totaled 365 kills, 37 blocks, 75 digs and 29 service aces. The outside hitter was on the All-Orange County first team.
Hunter, a middle blocker who made the All-Orange County and All-Pacific Coast League first teams, finished with 281 kills, 51 blocks and 31 aces.
