World Team Tennis: Breakers announce schedule

The Orange County Breakers will have six World Team Tennis home matches this summer beginning Aug. 1 against the San Diego Aviators, the Breakers announced this week.

Orange County again plays the Aviators on Aug. 3 at Newport Beach Tennis Club, before playing host to the five-time defending WTT champion Washington Kastles on Aug. 5.

The Breakers then play the New York Empire and Philadelphia Freedoms on Aug. 6 and 7, respectively, before their home finale against the Springfield Lasers on Aug. 9. That match will be Fan Appreciation Night.

All home matches will be played at Breakers Stadium at Newport Beach Tennis Club, and start at 7 p.m.

Orange County begins the season on the road at San Diego on July 31, and also has a road match against the Aviators on Aug. 2. After the home finale against Springfield, the Breakers then end the regular season with a four-match road trip in four nights, starting Aug. 10 against the Springfield Lasers. It also includes dates at the New York Empire (Aug. 11), the Kastles (Aug. 12) and the Freedoms (Aug. 13).

The Breakers’ lineup includes Nicole Gibbs, Alla Kudryavtesva, Scott Lipsky and Dennis Novikov. Newport Beach resident Rick Leach coaches the team, which returns to Orange County this summer after leaving for Austin, Texas following the 2013 season and being rebranded as the Austin Aces.
