High School Roundup: Barnes leads NHHS golf to win over Edison

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman Ethan Barnes shot one-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday at SeaCliff Country Club.
Richie Simons (39), Noah Mayne (41), Ryan Standt (44) and Drake Siegel (44) also scored for Newport Harbor (3-2, 2-1 in league).
The Sailors, led by Barnes, finished second in the Estancia tournament on Monday at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course. Long Beach Millikan won with 80 points in stableford scoring. NHHS, which also included Mayne, Simons and Siegel, scored 77.
Barnes posted five birdies.
Newport Harbor plays against Fountain Valley Wednesday at Mile Square Golf Course.

Clay Seeber shot one-over-par 36 to help the Sea Kings win the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club on Tuesday.
Guy Clauss (38), JohnMichael Jurgensen (39), Ethan Wien (41) and Zach Glabman (43) also scored for CdM (5-4, 1-2 in league).
The Sea Kings face Woodbridge at Newport Beach Country Club on Wednesday.

Corona del Mar 5, Northwood 2
Senior Evan Larsen allowed two runs on three hits, and struck out eight with two walks in his complete-game win for the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game on Tuesday at CdM.
Larsen, bound for Cal State Fullerton, improved to 5-0.
Sophomore Preston Hartsell went two for three with two runs batted in and a triple.
J.T. Schwartz (one for three, two RBIs), Donato DiFerdinando (one for three, RBI) and Nick Sperr (double) also contributed for CdM (13-2, 4-2 in league).
The Sea Kings play at Northwood on Friday.

Calvary Chapel 6, Costa Mesa 5
Junior Dylan Schafer went three for four with two runs for the Mustangs, who fell short of handing the Eagles their first loss in Orange Coast League play on Tuesday.
Ryan Lether, Grady Conner and Dominick Santos each had a hit for Costa Mesa (6-12, 2-4), which went into the seventh inning tied with Calvary Chapel at 4-4.
The Mustangs play host to Calvary Chapel on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Stephen Von Der Ahe scored seven goals and had three assists for the Sea Kings on Tuesday.
Jordan Greenhall had five goals and three assists for CdM.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore middle blocker Will Axton finished with six kills for the Sailors, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, in a Sunset League match on the road Tuesday.
Newport Harbor improved to 4-0 in league.
The Sailors play host to Edison on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

SANTA ANA – Senior Mason Tufuga had 23 kills and four aces to lead the Mustangs to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 Orange Coast League win on Tuesday.
Coby Pham amassed 29 assists and Nick Warner and Simon Daniel posted five kills each for Costa Mesa (9-1, 3-1 in league)

Sam Kobrine recorded 15 kills to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-9, 25-19, 25-10 Pacific Coast League win on Tuesday.
Mitch Haly added eight kills, Austin Cottrell had five digs and Matt Ctvrtlik amassed 19 assist for CdM (16-4, 4-0 in league).

Diego Fernandez del Valle and Matt Paulsen combined to win 18 of 20 games at No. 1 doubles in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at CdM.
John Hart and Ryan Wessler each won two singles sets for Corona del Mar (10-2, 4-0 in league).
The Sea Kings, ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, play at No. 3 University in a key league match Wednesday.

Maya Van Den Heever was two for four with a pair of doubles for the Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League opener at Estancia High.
The Eagles (5-8, 1-0 in league) play host to Calvary Chapel on Thursday.

JSerra Invitational
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Sage Hill finished second in the four-team meet Saturday at JSerra High.
Junior team captain Taras Polakoff finished first in the 100 butterfly in 54.91 seconds, and the 100 backstroke in 55.67. Freshman Jason Schreiber won the 200 IM in 1:59.70 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.99, both of which are new school records.
Sophomore Ethan Vovan was third in the 100 backstroke in 58.87.
Vovan, Schreiber, Polakoff and senior captain Harry Miller were third in the 200 medley relay in 1:44.73, while Polakoff, sophomore Zane Drobenko, Vovan and Schreiber were second in the 400 free relay in 3:31.21.
Orange Lutheran won the meet.
