Senior middle blocker Will Hunter finished with 20 kills and seven block assists in the host Sea Kings’ 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15 season-opening win on Wednesday.
UCLA-bound senior Sam Kobrine had 13 kills and nine digs for CdM, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 preseason poll.
The Sea Kings open the Best of the West Invitational in San Diego with a pool-play match against Clovis on Friday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor def. Dana Hills
Junior Spencer Lawrence led the Sailors with five kills in a 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 nonleague sweep at home on Wednesday, allowing Newport Harbor to improve to 4-0.
The Sailors, ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 preseason poll, travel to San Diego to compete in the Best of the West Invitational on Friday, when it plays Chula Vista Otay Ranch at 4 p.m.

LAKE FOREST — Senior attacker Jordan Greenhall recorded six goals, two assists and two ground balls in the Sea Kings’ opener on the road Wednesday.
CdM’s Jason Simaan won 17 of 18 faceoffs.
Eric Fries finished with four goals, an assist and a ground ball, while Will Favreau added three goals and a ground ball.
The Sea Kings, ranked No. 17 in the state by laxpower.com, play host to Brighton, from Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Sage Hill 5, Century 0
Freshman pitcher Ashwin Chona improved to 3-0 for the host Lightning on Wednesday, leading his team to the semifinals of the Orange County Division in the Newport Elks Tournament.
Sage Hill (5-1), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll, plays in the semifinals at Cerritos Valley Christian (4-1) on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Cole Tait had three hits and three runs batted in for the Lightning.

Senior pitcher Tommy Paoletti gave up six hits in five innings to earn the win for the Sea Kings in the Newport Elks Tournament game on Wednesday.
Preston Hartsell went two for three with a double and three stolen bases, Donato DiFerdinando was two for three with two RBIs and Kevin McCarthy was also two for three with two stolen bases for CdM (3-0), which plays host to Ayala on Thursday at 3 p.m.

CERRITOS — Senior Grady Conner went two for three with a grand slam for the Mustangs in a Newport Elks Tournament Orange County game on the road Wednesday.
Costa Mesa (2-3) resumes tournament play at Pico Rivera El Rancho (2-1) on Thursday at 3 p.m.

The Mustangs’ Katie Belmontes went three for five with a two-run home run and a double in Wednesday’s nonleague game at CdM.
Haley Wolf got the complete-game victory, striking out nine, while Paige Fisher was three for five with a triple for Costa Mesa (2-1).
CdM is 0-5.

SANTA ANA — Kennedy Mulvaney, Jensen Coop, Kennedy McGuinness and Paige Nelson all scored for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s nonleague game.
Sophomore goalie Ashley Olson had eight saves and two interceptions for CdM, which plays at Aliso Niguel on Friday at 7 p.m.
