High School Roundup: Kubisty leads Estancia softball to win

SOFTBALL

Estancia 19, Bolsa Grande 3

GARDEN GROVE — Sophomore Emily Kubisty was three for four with four runs scored for the Eagles in Tuesday’s nonleague road game.

Kubisty also pitched the complete game and struck out five for Estancia (2-2). Grecia Henriquez had two hits, two walks and four runs scored.

Estancia plays at Santa Ana Valley on Thursday.

Newport Harbor 9, Calvary Chapel 0

Samantha Del Toro struck out five and gave up three hits in her shutout for the Sailors in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

Leah Freeman went three for five with two runs, while Kendall Machado (one for two, two runs, one run batted in), Diana Surber (two for four, three runs, one RBI), Ashley McNerney (one for two, one run, two RBIs) and Del Toro (two for three, one double, three RBIs) also contributed for Newport Harbor (4-1).

The Sailors play host to Western on Thursday.

Westminster 14, Corona del Mar 10

WESTMINSTER — CdM junior Brooke Franson was two for two with two walks, two runs batted in and five stolen bases during Tuesday’s nonleague game.

CdM freshman Amerys Barshtak went two for four with a triple and a walk, while Lauren Oberreiter had a bunt single and Makayle Etchegoyen had a line-drive single.

CdM plays host to Costa Mesa on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

BASEBALL

Estancia 3, Garden Grove 1

Pitcher Nick Torres improved to 3-0 after his complete-game one-hitter for the Eagles in a Newport Elks Tournament game on Tuesday.

Colin Gardner went two for three with two runs and a run batted in to lead the offense, while Brian Rodriguez (two for four), Connor Brown (one for two, one triple) and Jeff Alai (one for four, one RBI) also contributed for Estancia (5-1).

BASEBALL

Santa Fe 7, Newport Harbor 5

Jake Genova went two for four with a double and a run batted in for the host Sailors, who dropped their first Foothill Division pool-play game in the Newport Elks Tournament on Tuesday.

Luke Genova was two for three with an RBI and a double for Newport Harbor (3-2), while Cade Seabold was two for three with two RBIs and a double.

Newport Harbor’s Jeremiah Sheldon was two for four.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 13, Fountain Valley 5

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Senior co-captains Bjorn Hoffmann and Pedro Fernandez del Valle earned singles sweeps for CdM in Tuesday’s nonleague road match.

Grant Brown and Matt Paulsen swept in doubles for CdM (4-1), which plays host to Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay rivalry match on Wednesday.

Tesoro 9, Newport Harbor 9

(Tesoro wins on games, 67-60)

David Lee swept at singles for the Sailors in the nonleague match on Tuesday.

Lee improved to 12-0 in singles for the season.

Andy Myers, who is 9-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles, swept at No. 3 singles for Newport Harbor (1-3).

The Sailors play at rival Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay Wednesday at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 197, Aliso Niguel 200

Guy Clauss shot one-over par 36 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match at Newport Beach Country Club on Tuesday.

Clay Seeber (37), Ethan Wien (37), Zach Glabman (42) and John-Michael Jurgensen (45) also scored for CdM (2-1).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Mater Dei 15, Newport Harbor 5

SANTA ANA — Senior captain Rylie Siegfried scored the Sailors’ first two goals in the nonleague game Tuesday at Mater Dei High.

Junior midfielder Sarah Farley scored her first goal of the season, while sophomore Adena Rothbard controlled three draws.

Newport Harbor plays host to Trabuco Hills on Friday.
