College Roundup: Hiura leads UCI to win over Cal State Bakersfield

UC Irvine 9, Cal State Bakersfield 6
Sophomore Keston Hiura had three hits for the host Anteaters in the nonconference game Tuesday.
Hiura was three for five with one run batted in and two runs to help UCI improve to 9-4.
The hosts led, 3-1, but trailed, 6-3, before erupting for six runs in the sixth to drop the Roadrunners to 4-8.
Evan Cassolato had a two-run double and Grant Palmer had a two-run triple to key the sixth-inning uprising that made a winner out of reliever Miles Glazier (one shutout inning).
Starting pitcher Alonzo Garcia allowed one earned run and two hits in four innings for UCI.
John Brontsema was two for four with three runs and Mitchell Holland was two for three with one RBI and one run for the winners, who visit Tennessee, guided by former UCI Coach Dave Serrano, for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday.

Cypress 11, Orange Coast 2
CYPRESS — The visiting Pirates posted a 13-10 advantage in hits in the Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.
Daniel Hawkins was three for four, while Nolan Powers, JT Navarro, Chris Prescott and Andrew Garcia all had two hits apiece for OCC (9-8, 0-2 in conference), ranked No. 12 in Southern California.
No. 2-ranked Cypress is 12-2, 2-0.
OCC plays host to Cypress on Thursday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UC Santa Barbara 62, UC Irvine 43
The host Anteaters ended their season with their 11th straight loss in the first round of the Big West Conference Tournament on Tuesday.
UCI (4-27) lost 22 of its last 23 in Coach Doug Oliver’s final season.
Irene Chavez led the ‘Eaters with 11 points, while Mckenzie Piper had eight.
UCI, which came in ranked No. 344 and last in NCAA Division I in three-point shooting accuracy (22.7%), missed all four of its attempts from beyond the arc.
UCSB was zero for 13 from threedom, but shot 57.1% from two-point range (24 for 42) to improve to 12-19.

MEN’S TENNIS
UC Irvine 7, Weber State 0
Tyler Pham and Jonathan Hammel won in singles and doubles to pace the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Tuesday.
Pham and Hammel won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, then paired to top their opponent at No. 2 doubles.
UCI is 8-5.
Weber State is 4-6.

Stephanie Hazell and Mazy Watrous earned straight-set singles wins to pace the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Tuesday.
Hazell and Watrous prevailed at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to help UCI improve to 2-9.
Middle Tennessee is 7-6.
