High School Roundup: Newport Harbor edges Marina in boys’ basketball
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Newport Harbor 52, Marina 51
Collin Pipkin scored 15 points, including the game-winner with three seconds left to lift the Sailors in their Sunset League game at Marina on Friday.
Zach Blaine added 13 points for Newport Harbor (12-6, 1-0 in league).
The Sailors will play host to Los Alamitos on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Sage Hill 68, Downey Calvary Chapel 54
Dominic Sadeghi scored 28 points to lead the Lightning (10-4, 1-1 in league) over the Grizzlies (6-10, 0-3).
Jose Campos had a game-high 29 points with three 3-pointers for Calvary Chapel.
Sage Hill led, 27-22, at halftime, and the Lightning pulled away by winning the fourth quarter, 24-16.
WRESTLING
Newport Harbor High’s Xander Moreno (145’s), Ethan Zimmerman (160’s), and DJ Van Oostendorp (182’s) all advanced to the quarterfinals of the John Glenn Tournament.
Wrestlers had to win three rounds to get to that stage on Friday.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Pacifica Christian 4, St. Pius-St. Matthias 1
Sophomore Sadie Hill produced a goal and an assist for the Tritons on Friday.
Freshman Maggie O’Callaghan, sophmore Corrine Carlson and junior Mele Falasco also scored for Pacifica Christian (9-1).
Sophomore Maddie Alaluf and junior Mele Falasco had one assist each.
The Tritons will play host to Fairmont Prep on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Vanguard University.
Sage Hill 10, Calvary Chapel Downey 0
Marina Wild scored three unassisted goals and produced one assist for the Lightning on Friday.
Sydney McCord and Anika Nielsen scored two goals each. Taylor Magliarditi, Emma Dickerson and Ellie Kline scored one goal each for Sage Hill (4-4-1, 1-1-0 in league).
Alana Karro and Olivia Lowe also had assists.
Sage Hill outshot Calvary Chapel Downey, 20-0.
Sage Hill next plays at Valley Christian in Cerritos, a nonleague match on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
