Man struck and killed by car while crossing street in Costa Mesa

A 53-year-old man died early Saturday after being struck by a car while crossing Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa.
Costa Mesa police and fire officials responded to reports of a collision at 2:55 a.m. along northbound Newport Boulevard, north of 17th Street.
Patrick O’Gara, described as a transient, apparently was running west across Newport Boulevard when he was struck by a 1988 Cadillac Eldorado, police said.
O’Gara died of his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Tustin man, remained at the scene. He was not arrested or cited, police said.
