Newport-Mesa Unified School District trustees Tuesday approved a cost change to an agreement with the main construction company for the Costa Mesa High School sports field project, raising the total value of its contract by $220,208.
In October, the board awarded the contract to Escondido-based Erickson-Hall Construction with a base bid of $5,953,000.
The board-approved increase to $6,173,208 is meant to cover additional work as Mustangs Field continues to be built on campus. The main cost increases involve the field’s drainage system, such as relocating the drinking fountain dry well, rerouting an existing irrigation line and revising underground stormwater pipe elevations and flow directions.
Mustangs Field is expected to open by this fall’s football season. The project was approved in 2014 with an initial overall cost of $8.5 million.
