Around Town: Memorial service remembers late OCC professor

Memorial planned for OCC distinguished professor
A memorial service for Tom Garrison, a retired marine sciences professor of Orange Coast College, will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Robert B. Moore Theater on the campus at 2701 Fairview Road.
The service, hosted by Garrison’s family, is open to the public.
The distinguished professor died March 2 from complications related to lymphoma. He was 73.
Garrison was instrumental in developing the marine science department and taught a popular Introduction to Oceanography class for many years.
Concordia University appoints public policy director
Concordia University Irvine announced last week the appointment of Jo Ellen Chatham as the director for The Center for Public Policy.
Chatham will assist in civic programming, including community advancement, program development and student recruitment. She previously served as a public affairs director at Southern California Edison.
Irvine to host Alzheimer’s Orange County gala
Alzheimer’s Orange County will present its 18th annual Creating Hope Gala at AV Irvine on March 18, a new venue on Scientific Way.
For more than 30 years, Alzheimer’s Orange County has been a resource for those living with Alzheimer’s, providing services such as a telephone helpline, family care consultations, caregiver support groups, early memory loss programs and educational workshops.
The gala will recognize four outstanding honorees for their longtime support . The event will also feature a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, live auction and musical entertainment.
The gala begins at 6:30 p.m.
