COSTA MESA — Senior Paul Sugano-Dyson had six goals to lead the Eagles in their Orange Coast League opener Wednesday at Estancia High.

Brooks Watkins added three goals for Estancia (2-4), and Garrett Henshied made eight saves. Coach John Carpenter said the team had a great counterattack working off its defense.

Estancia plays at defending league and CIF champion Laguna Beach on Oct. 6.

Sunset League preview meet

Newport Harbor High junior Maggie Goodson finished seventh to help the girls’ team finish third with a 3-2 record Wednesday.

Goodson finished in 19 minutes, 19 seconds. Sophomore Leah Van Dyke was 11th in 19:35, junior Katherine Maddox was 13th in 19:41, senior Makena Owen was 15th in 19:43 and sophomore Ashley Ima was 18th in 19:58.

On the boys’ side, Sailors senior Jake Barber finished third in 15:41, as Newport Harbor finished with an 0-5 record. Senior Jason Moreno was 18th in 16:48.
