BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 76, Colony 73

MISSION VIEJO — Marcus Bradley scored 24 points, earned all-tournament team honors and led the Sea Kings to third place in the Mission Viejo Diablo Inferno tournament Saturday.

Danny Cheek had 11 points and Chris Freeman scored nine points for CdM (3-1).

The Sea Kings will face Clovis West in pool play of the Ocean View Tournament of Champions Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Estancia 61, Bassett 38

NORWALK — Eagles senior Davon Joyner had 20 points and 16 rebounds on his way to earning all-tournament team honors in the consolation game of the John Glenn Tournament Saturday.

Estancia (2-2) will play against Huntington Park Monday in the El Rancho Tournament in Pico Rivera.

Sage Hill 57, Avalon 24

AVALON — Mark Loper scored 12 points in three quarters for the Lightning in the nonleague game Saturday.

Chris Zadra and Brandon Zelner had eight points each for Sage Hill (3-0).

The Lightning will face Zinsmeyer Academy of Long Beach Monday in the Tarbut V’Torah tournament.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 14, Coronado 5

CORONADO — Senior Catherine Carpenter had four goals, two assists and two steals as the Sailors opened their season with a win Saturday at Coronado High.

Presley Pender, Kailyn Obenauer, Maddy McLaren and Allyson Hall all scored twice for the Sailors (1-0). Izzy Donati had five saves in the first half and normal starting goalie Sarah Wilkey, who miised the first half as she was taking her SAT test, had three saves in the second half.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason poll, plays host to No. 7 Foothill on Friday at 3 p.m.

Costa Mesa 11, El Dorado 10

ANAHEIM — The Costa Mesa High girls’ water polo team finished 15th in the 32-team Benson Cup after winning its final game Saturday at Esperanza High.

Kellie Thorsness scored four goals against El Dorado and Ashley DeMarzo added three for the Mustangs (3-4). Earlier in the day, Mesa lost to Santa Monica, 12-3, despite a pair of goals from Sydney Rosello.

After splitting their first two games of the tournament, the Mustangs also beat Brea Olinda, 15-6, on Friday behind four goals from Monica Folkerts and three each from DeMarzo and Taylor Ives.

WRESTLING

Battle by the Bay

CORONA DEL MAR — Newport Harbor took fourth in the two-day tournament after falling to Aliso Niguel, 48-27, in Saturday’s third-place match at Corona del Mar High.

Newport Harbor was 5-2 in the 16-team tournament, CdM was 3-3 and Costa Mesa went 2-4.

Newport Harbor seniors Bradley Beaudette (189 pounds) and Ryan Cerrato (171), as well as junior Ben Nordstrom (152), all individually went undefeated. Each wrestler won all seven of his matches.

Foothill won the tournament, beating Woodbridge in the final. Irvine was consolation champion.
