SAN DIEGO — Junior Brett Berman had two assists to help the Anteaters, ranked No. 12 by College Soccer News, improve to 4-0 in the San Diego State tournament opener Friday at San Diego State.
Senior defender Corey Attaway headed in a Berman corner kick in the 44th minute to open the scoring. It was Attaway’s team-leading third goal of the season, the fifth of then-seven UCI goals this year tallied by a defender.
Senior forward Amani Walker converted a Berman header for the capping goal in the 71st minute. Junior Christian Hernandez, who began the sequence with a corner kick, was also credited with an assist.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Fontein had eight saves for UCI, which has not allowed a goal this season.

SAN DIEGO – Goalie Alan Vilchez recorded seven saves to help the Pirates win the nonconference match Friday.
Luis Salgado had a goal and an assist, while Christian Huerta scored and Junior Caceda added an assist for OCC (1-2).

MALIBU — Senior forward Tanya Taylor scored in the 81st minute to force two overtime periods that produced no goals in a nonconference road match Friday.
Sophomore Dana Sanderlin earned the assist for the Anteaters (3-1-2), who posted a 16-5 advantage in shots.

LOS ANGELES – Taryn Bales scored two goals and had an assist for the Pirates in their nonconference game Friday.
Brooke Springer added a goal, while Emily Niles and Cindy Olivan provided one assist each for OCC (1-2-1). Pirates goalie Megan Thomson had three saves.

COSTA MESA – Katherine Wichner had six kills for the Pirates in their 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 nonconference win Friday.
Katie Bergen and Whitney Crosby had five kills each, while setter Kimya Jafroudi had 17 assists and eight digs for OCC (2-0).

ROCKLIN – KaUwila Lavea recorded 26 kills in six sets to help Vanguard sweep Menlo and Dominican at William Jessup University Friday.
Lisa Morgan had 16 kills in the two matches and Alexandra Leja had 64 assists for the Lions (6-2), who beat Menlo, 25-14, 25-16, 25-22, and then Dominican, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.

HONOLULU — Senior outside hitter Kari Pestolesi had a season-best 20 kills and 14 digs and added a pair of aces for the Anteaters, who fell, 26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11, in the opening match of the Hawaii tournament Thursday at the University of Hawaii.
Marissa Alvarez had 30 assists and a team-high 17 digs for UCI (2-4), which hit .162 as a team.
