The Sunset League has determined its two new four-team divisions for sports outside of football for the 2018 fall season, said Edison High athletic director Rich Boyce via text on Saturday.
The Sunset League, which used to be home to six schools, Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Marina and Newport Harbor, will expand to eight schools with the addition of Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach in 2018-19.
Boyce said the Sunset League would feature the Surf Division and Wave Division, with the Surf Division being the top division.
Below are the schools in their respective Sunset League divisions for the 2018 fall season:
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Surf Division: CdM, Edison, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos
Wave Division: Fountain Valley, Laguna Beach, Marina, Newport Harbor

In each division, the girls’ volleyball and girls’ golf teams will play each other twice in league for a total of six matches, and they will play four cross-division matches. Only the six matches in division play will count toward placement in the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
The boys’ water polo teams will have two rounds of division play, totaling six games. There will not be any cross-division action.
Cross-country will have its eight schools competing in preview and league final meets.
The teams in each division will change annually, depending on their success, said Boyce. He added that the division placement for the winter and spring sports in 2018-19 will be determined after this school year’s winter and spring seasons.
Football will continue to be a six-team league, with CdM joining Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor in 2018. Laguna Beach and Marina will play in the Golden West League.
